• Puerto Vallarta fishing report July

Puerto Vallarta fishing report July. The water is warming up and so is the fishing.  The bay fishing is extreme and all of our boats are landing all kinds of incredible fish like mahi mahi, snapper, bonitos and even sailfish in the bay.  The light evening rains have really set the tremendous fishing frenzy into action.  The super pangas for small groups have been hitting all the fish.  We had one super panga catch and release one sailfish and over 30 other game fish today to start the July fishing season here in Puerto Vallarta.  The light winds have been welcomed by all the families and other fisherman and fisher women as well.  big puerto vallarta marlin

The medium size sport fisher has been catching fish offshore and in the bay.  Some days the bay fishing has been so good there was no reason to head offshore.  These boat run more lines then our super pangas and have also been catching sailfish, marlin, mahi mahi and all the small game you want to catch.  One of these Puerto vallarta sport fishers caught a sailfish and marlin today and what a happy group to be in.  What an incredible day of fishing.  This calls for a trip to Gray mounting company that helps us out here in Mexico and other resorts through out the beautiful beach destinations.  puerto vallarta deep sea fishing charters

Our larger boats we operate are having a field day offshore and in the bay.  Most of the days we were fishing for the big one 20 to 30 mile offshore but can never turn down the unrealistic action the bay has been producing.  The tunas are out at the Corbetena and some at El Banco.   The marlin fishing has been off the charts just out past Punta Mita Nayarit.  This is very close to the Four Seasons hotel and the ST. Regis hotel here in Punta Mita which is a couple of the nicest 5 star resorts we have in the bay.  The sailfish are also thick just offshore with a few of our boats releasing over 8 sailfish a day along with some dorados.

The best dorado action has been up close to Lo de Marcos which is a good run for anyone of our boats but we want to catch the fish for our clients.  Fish with the pro here in Puerto Vallarta fishing and you will see a huge difference when going for these throphy fish.

Until next week hope to see everyone out on the water here in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing Charters June

Puerto Vallarta fishing Charters June is here and the fishing could not be better.  The deep sea fishing is continuing to increase in fish numbers and size. The marlin, sailfish, dorados and tuna are still following the bait into the beautiful Puerto Vallarta bay and the offshore areas we enjoying fishing here in Mexico.   The light evening rains will be starting around the middle of the month and this means the bay fishing in Puerto Vallarta  and the offshore fishing will be fantastic.  The water temp is still over 80 degrees and will be all summer long.  What does this mean to the average fisherman coming to Puerto vallarta or family ?  It means you will have a incredible chance to catch that throphy fish or those tuna and mahi mahi you are looking to cook at one of the best restaurants in Puerto Vallarta or take home with on the plane back to the United States or Canada.

    fly fishing puerto vallarta

You can expect some great bay fishing here in Puerto Vallarta.  After the light evening rains start the mahi mahi , tuna, bonitas and even some sailfish will be coming into the bay.  The bait are already here and we are just waiting for the pelagic fish to show up.  The rains are coming and for sure the bait balls.  With all the hot action happening the bay fish will be rocking and catching several good fish on every trip.

The offshore fishing has been strong and just as the bay fishing will improve with the coming of the rains and the bait movement.  One of the major differences in bay fishing and the offshore fishing is the travel time to and from where we fish offshore such as the El Morro, The Corbetena and El Banco just to mention a  few.  These are the go to places

puerto vallarta fishing charterswhen fishing for the big fish here in Puerto Vallarta fishing charters.  The blue marlin, black marlin , huge tuna, mahi mahi and sailfish roam these areas as they will be thick with bait.  Some days the bait is so abundant it goes on and on for miles.  Like a mile buffet only for fish.  This is an unbelievable  sight to see and defiantly means superb fishing for that day.

mahi mahi in puerto vallarta fishing

We will be using several techniques when fishing the offshore water here in Mexico.  Early morning is great for high speed lure and skipping baits.  On some of our bigger boats we can run 10 lines along with a couple of teasers.  If this does raise the fish they are just not biting in the morning.

Another technique is the slow troll with live baits ranging from a couple of pounds to ten or more pounds.  These large bonitas are used for big tunas and the larger marlin.  Think about a ten pound snack.  Will have to be some kind of big fish to tackle on of these large baits.

At other times of the day we like to run some of the baits on the down rigger up to 100 feet down.  These pelagic fish do not always hit on top of the surface.  One of my personal favorites is running the fast bait on the surface while running the down rigger so top water and below the water can be coved at the same time above and below.  As you can see June fishing in Puerto Vallarta is just getting started but already in full swing.  Come down while the beer is cold and the fishing hot.

Look forward to seeing you out there

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report may marlin

Puerto Vallarta fishing report may marlin. The water is continuing to heat up along with the marlin fishing. This incredible month of may fishing in Puerto Vallarta has seen some marlin, tuna, mahi mahi and yellowtail. This trend should hold for the next couple of months. June is right around the corner. The June fishing is always good as around the middle of the month the light rains start in the evenings. This brings all kind of pelagic fish into the bay following the bait food chain.

puerto vallarta deep sea fishingThe sardines and big Bonita are already here and that is one of the best indicators fishermen have to gauge the up coming fishing season. In one of the last fishing reports for Puerto Vallarta fishing I mentioned how the bait movement influenced where and how the big sailfish, tuna and marlin feed. If the bait is there

mahi mahi in puerto vallarta fishingwe all have a good chance a that trophy fish or good eating fish we are looking to catch on our fishing charter. The rains we have in the evenings make the water clearer and most of the days we can find a water line where the clear and off color water meet. This means the bait will be there and so will the fish. The different water temp. and the big change in the water color will hold good size fish especially during the large tide changes we have this time of the year.
One of the best methods to fish the water lines is the slow troll bait all along the line.  The big fish will be swimming up and down this area and with live bait placed in just the right spots it’s a can’t miss fishing method. There will be sailfish, marlin , tuna, and huge mahi mahi mixed in the water line that can run for miles and miles depending on the water flow from the 6 major rivers that flow into the Puerto Vallarta bay. These water lines can go out even farther into the pacific ocean where the large fish pray. The bay fishing in May though June is unbelievable but the offshore fishing is the way to go if you are looking for the huge trophy fish like big cow tuna, huge marlin and sailfish. This next month in June we have an international tournament is San Blas which is close to Puerto Vallarta ad brings in many fishermen from all over the world.
The offshore fishing is going to be outstanding this June as the water heats up so does the big game fishing. Puerto Vallarta fishing report May

Puerto Vallarta fishing report in May will see some of  the best fishing of the year.  This last week we have seem improvements in the bait showing up and the number of fish we have been catching.  The fantastic news is the blue water is close by and the incredible amount of bait that is showing up in the Puerto Vallarta bay fishing will keep the fishing hot for quite a while.

    bait ball puerto vallarta fishing

As you can see from this huge bait ball we found inside the bay of Puerto Vallarta the bait is here and the fish will be as well.  When you get this amount of bait in these waters of Mexico the fishing is out of this world.  The day we were on these bait balls there were snapper, sailfish, marlin and some nice sized dorados hanging around.   The pelagic fish love to feed off of the gigantic bait balls as they move very slowly and stay tightly packed together for protection.  The marlin

simply have to swim through them feeding at will.  We spot these huge bait balls sometimes from a mile away with the birds working on top of them.  What a sight to see and also helps us find the game fish we are looking to catch these days offshore.

The roosterfish, snapper, tuna, sailfish, marlin, and mahi – mahi also known as dorados hang around these bait balls.  The water temp. moved up a few degrees and is holding around 77 deg. And should be stable for the next month.

    snapper fishing puerto vallarta

The bay fishing has been really hot this last week.  The yellowtail a.k.a.  jack crevalle are thick catching some days ten to twenty fish all around the 20 to 30 lbs range.  The Calofornia bonita are following the bait balls into the bay and are really fun fish to catch.  Average day for these great tasting fish is fifty a day are in the good range size.  These make for some great cerchive or on the grill after long day fishing here in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

The offshore fishing is producing nice size dorados, sailfish and marlin.  The best bet has been to run up to Punta Mita catching the Calofornia bonita while watching the bait balls to see if there are snapper mixed in with them.  The stripped marlin love the black bart lure trolled around 8 knots as well as sailfish with condom rigs bait with lure on top of the bait.  Super hot right now.

Bay fishing is super for around 6 hrs. and the offshore fishing can’t be beat 8 hrs. and maybe more.

Some come on down while this beautiful spring weather and fishing is so good right now.

Capt. Pina fishing out by Punta Mita reported incredible action off the point in Puerta Mita all the way up to Salyulita.  Sailfish, Marlin and fantastic mahi – mahi fishing. Seems like the fast fishing action never stopped on some days. The bay is loaded with fish from several different fishing locations. The south side produced some nice roosterfish this last week here in Puerto Vallarta fishing.

The international fishing tournament was a blast a couple of days ago. The last tournament was won by the Puerto Vallarta fishing team.  This year another winner in Puerto Vallarta fishing.

Puerto Vallarta fishing is in full swing.  The sardines have arrived along with choras.  This is great on so may levels.  The sardines bring the mahi mahi , sailfish, stripped and other game fish close to our beautiful shores and bay.   When the bait movement comes here and hangs out for long period of time this means only one thing.  Great fishng in Puerto vallarta.  The sailfish , mahi mahi aka dorados, and stripped marlin all have a water temperature that they like to swim in.  Just like us when we take a bath.  We all have a temperature we like the water to be.  Will so do fish.  This is one of the main reasons we are checking the water and pacific ocean water temps.  These fish love to be in the perfect water temperature.

There’s one factor that will keep fish in a location or move them to another location.  Food yes food.  Bait.  No matter what the water temp is or the color of the water.  If the bait is there ya have a great chance to land the big one that most folks are fishing for here in Puerto Vallarta.  When we find the bait that these pelagic fish love we have hit a home run.  We love these conditions are the fish are thick and there for the catching.  I use terrafin  for all of our boats.  If it’s one of our super pangas 28 ft., or med size sportfishers 32 ft. or one of the 40 ft sportfishers with everything included.

The choras we caught today are a good sign that the big fish are here and coming to stay.  The big tuna and marlin love to eat the 5 to 10 lbs choras.  Bait for us that fish for these big guys.  Ya must have a good boat that has tuna tubes are you are just wasting your time. If you can find the big baits and load up the tuna tubes your chances of catching a big marlin have increased ten fold.  When the water temp start rising and the two favorites baits start showing up these means game on for fishing here in Puerto vallarta.  The blue marlin and black marlin will be here and so will the best fishing in the world.  Come down and try your hand of catching one of these trophy fish that run in these waters of the Pacific ocean and the are that surround Puerto vallarta.

    fishng charters in Puerto Vallarta

This last week the bay fishing was hot for snapper, yellowtail, Spanish mackerel and other game fish.  Best bet was 6 hrs in the bay on one of our super pangas for smaller groups or one of the larger boats for 4 or more people wanting to fish here in Puerto Vallarta.

The offshore action has be incredible.  The stripped marlin have been hanging around for the bait that I described above along with sailfish.  These trips can be done in 8 hrs or    maybe a little more time.  It’s best to call and speak with Capt. Peter Vines toll free to plan your fishing charter here in Puerto Vallarta before you come down to find the right boat and the best trip for you and family.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report April 2018

Puerto Vallarta fishing report starts off with some incredible news. All fishing grounds are closed until farther notice. April’s fools just kidding the fishing is great and the marlin action is off the charts. The offshore fishing action could not be better. We fished on the north side of Puerto Vallarta including the Punta Mita fishing grounds and we were seeing sailfish and marlin in all the right spots. These pelagic fish were biting on black bart lures trolled around 7 to 8 knots. The very best bite was on live pitch baits. We are sight vesting these giant fish while trolling out best lure along with some hot teasers. If we can’t raise them with the teasers we are throwing the pitch baits when we see them finning. I cast over a hundred times yesterday so be sure and bring your power bars or what ever you use for that extra energy. puerto vallarta fishing chartersYou will need it fishing this time of the year. I almost forgot to mention the yellowtail AKA jack carevalles are tearing up the water. With catching 10 sailfish and marlin a day we landed 40 of these strong fighting fishing all in the 20 to 30 lbs. class. My repeat clients requested and early return to the dock after so many billfish and the fantastic action we were having on light tackle with all the jack cerevalles we caught yesterday. There we light winds and for the most the seas were flat like most of our clients like them. April fishing means the beginning of spring and lot of sardines and other boat fish show up around our shores. This is the number # 1 reason all of these billfish are holding in Puerto vallarta and Punta Mita. The water temp is around 77 deg. And the stripped marlin love this tempeture. It would be nice if we had the perfect blue water but these fish follow the bait and water temperatures before looking for blue water. Looking at the terrafin charts along with my thirty so odd years for fishing here the blue water will be following the bait and the fishing will be hot for Puerto vallarta this spring.
This spring break we had so many family and young men/girls on our boats. I was happy to see the bay fishing producing so many fish. All of the fishng trips in Puerto Vallarta were successful . The bay fishing is hot with some Spanish mackerel, bonita, snapper, yellowtail and even a few marlin the last few days.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report March

Puerto Vallarta fishing report March.  This means spring is just around the corner.  Thewater temp is heating up and so will the fishing here in Puerto Vallarta. IN the last week it was up almost 6 deg, this means the sardines will be showing up in huge schools. The water temperature is hold around 78 deg.   The sailfish, marlin and mahi mahi follow them each year. This means we will be loading up on big fish. Last week the sailfish action and marlin action was off the charts.  Most of the amazing fish are being caught on the troll.  One of the best areas the fish have been biting is just north of Puerto Vallarta around Punta Mita.  The pitch baits are working well and these pelagic fish come to surface to feed during the right times of the day between the big tide changes. These are the vesy best time to be on the water fishing.  Check tides before leaving or call me for the best times here in Puerto vallarta Mexico.  Remember some of the best water temp for sailfish and marlin is in the high 70’s.  Check with us and I will look at the charts of the surface temp and let everyone know where the fish will be biting.

    puerto vallarta fishing

We love March fishing as on most trips we can fish offshore and still have time to come inshore and try for the world class roosertfish we catch in March fishng here in Puerto Vallarta.  These unbelievable fish can be caught using the 5 to ten pound live bonita.  When these fish hit the game is one and can last a while trying to catch one of these big guys

The March fishing inshore is great as well as the sardines show up and of course all the bay fish follow then here into the beautiful bay.  There’s a little bit of everything to catch in the bay like bonita, Spanish mackerel, tunas, mahi mahi.  When the sardines and other bait fish show up the Puerto Vallarta fish can’t be beat any where in the world.  Come down with the family or  our hardcore buddies for some of the spring fishing we have here to offer.  You should

  • January Puerto Vallarta fishing report

The Puerto vallarta fishing has been off the charts.  Inside the bay and offshore.  The bite has been great for the 6 hrs. trips for families and the guys that want to go offshore hard core fishing here in Mexico.  The best fishing inside the bay has been for the Calafornia  bonita, Spanish mackerel , snapper, yellowtail and a few mahi mahi.  We had also had the pleasure of having the humpback whales along for all the trips.  The kids love seeing the whales but them we all do.  If you live in Houston Texas, Phoenix Arizona , or one of the other great places in the United States you don’t get to see the huge mammals every day.  What a show they can put on.  This is a big plus when fishng here in Puerto Vallarta.

The offshore fishng is producing marlin, sailfish, and big mahi mahi.  These trips are best done early and should be at least 8 to 10 hrs. To ensure enough time to get the best fishing grounds.  Live bait is still hot and works well inshore and offshore.  The marlin are still hitting the lures ranging from black bart to just about any skipping bait you can think of.  The secret weapon is always the condom rig with a natural bait along with a lure on top.  We usually run 10 lines at a time and 4 of them will be condom rigs.  These are really great for marlin and sailfish.

The Puerto Vallarta mahi mahi action is still hold strong.  The offshore is the best but some days we are catching them in the bay on our 6 hr. bay fishing trips.  The offshore is the best right now for the month of January. The best spots have been where the water is around 78 deg. and blue.  The bait movement is always a good sign of where the fish are going to be hanging around these fanstic fishng grounds here in Mexico.

The Puerto Vallarta fishing is great and the weather is perfect.  Come down to Mexico and explore the fishng grounds with us on one of our coast guard approved fishing vessels.  We off super pangas for four people to 40 ft super sport fishing boat that will fit your needs.  Keep your line tight

  • December fishing in Puerto Vallarta 2017

    The fishing
In Puerto Vallarta is at it’s best. The weather , temperature and fishing bite
Are almost perfect. I always like to start with the Puerto Vallarta bay fishing as
This time of the year we always have lot of families that like short trips as many
People have young kids. If the kids are less than 10 years old we recommend 6 hrs. or less for bay trips. Of course some kids can fish all day depending on the ages. Even though there are lot of huge mantas, sea turtles, dolphin and

Humpback whales to see along the way out and back. The kids love it but then again who doesn’t ??
The bay fishing trips are resulting in snapper, Spanish mackerel, bonita, mahi mahi and even a couple
Of sailfish on the last couple of trips. The seas have been flat making for a smooth ride for all. The best bet is book your trip along with the tides to give you a better chance of hook ups. The is still plenty of bait in the Bay so be sure you have live bait to take on all trips.
The offshore trips are landing some nice marlin, sailfish and mahi mahi.   A couple of the best spots we fish El Morro and Corbetena
Have been the best this month. There have been several nice marlin caught on some 8 hrs trips but 10 hrs has been the best bet for catching the huge fish. The are black marlin , blue marlin and of course stripped marlin. The first 2 marlin species have been hitting
Fast speed lures and our old favorite live bait. The latter has been on lures , pitch baits , and the slow troll with 2 to 4 lb baits. The tuna are still
Hanging around Rock, El Morro and of course El Banco.
The very best fishing has been at the islands Maries. These are 2.5 day trips where you can catch marlin, sailfish, tuna and the bigger marlin.
Send me a message for the details about these fanstic trip for all kinds of great fishing at vallartafishing@hotmail.com

Puerto Vallarta fishing report summer 2017

Summer time is here and the fishing is heating up in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

    puerto vallarta sailfish release

During the months of June through October we have some of the best fishing in the world. In the month of June usually around the 15 th . Of the month we get rains every day about 6 to 7 pm in the evening. This is a good thing as it cools everything off and creates super fishing in and outside the bay.  ON some days the bay fishing is better in the bay versus offshore fishing.

    Capt. Pete

Summer time fishing in the bay can produce a lot of action with bonita, yellowtail, tuna, mahi mahi and even sailfish. This is because the water temperature reaches about 80 deg. And stays there until the winter months roll around. There will usually be a trash line that is created from all the stuff that come out of the rivers here in Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas. We have 5 rivers that feed into the bay here. Early morning fishing on this trash line can put ya on mahi mahi and selfish almost everyday. Be sure and have lots of live bait. Trolling with lures and sewn baits such as mullets work great as well. These bay trips are great for the families or someone looking to catch a trophy fish.

    fishing puerto vallarta

For those who are serious about catching the big one such as marlin and tuna summer is the best time be fishing the outside of the bay. With the water temperature around 80 deg. There are schools of bonitos everywhere and the marlin and tuna follow them here to Puerto Vallarta. Just out past the Maritas,Corbetena and El Banco are just a few of the places we fish for the big ones. Plan on a 10 to 12 hr day for the marlin and tuna trips. As you can see summer time fishing in Puerto Vallarta can not be beat so come on down and wet and line and have a cold one.
