• Puerto Vallarta fishing report for May

Puerto Vallarta fishing charter report for May action. The deep sea fishing and weather are getting hotter.  There are some great  events that we always have here in May .  The Mexican  Mother’s Day, one of our San Blas international fishing tournaments and unbelievable fishing.  This is brought on  by warm gentle water moving in an onslaught baitfish in the Puerto Vallarta area.may fishing in puerto vallarta

When the bay water heats up we start seeing real large numbers of  Marlin coming in and around the day.  This last week here in Puerto Vallarta fishing we have been locating  good numbers of striped Marlin right here in the Bay area along with some sailfish. This means to the Bay of flags. With the water heating up and a large increase in bait activity will start seeing the black  marlin and blue marlin showing up offshore very soon. In the nest couple of weeks  we’re happy to be seeing all the striped Marlin in the bay. When you see the huge bait balls on the surface the fishing is wide open here for almost anything you want to catch.

If you’ve been checking my fishing reports that I’ve been doing over the last 30 years here we look for several things one of them is the water clarity, the blue water the temperature, the tides , and last but not least where the bait is running. The fish are just like us they have to eat so if you can find where the bait is then you will always find a lot fish. Always a plus if you have good water temperature , blue water and lots of bait all at the same time.puerto vallarta fishing report for may 2019

With this large amount of bait in the bay and in the outlaying areas we’re seeing all kinds of fish.  The big red  snapper had moved in and her striking  all kinds of lures , live bait, trolled bait and fresh cut bait fishing on the bottom with weights. You put it out there it they’ll bite it. Most of the Puerto Vallarta charter boats are catching lots of the yellowtail , the  mackerel, and the really great tasting California Bonita. Most of these Fish can be caught pulling rapalas and the small lures behind them like the deadly Clark spoons. Dragging baits and some of our high speed lures it’s a no fail method of landing fish inside the bay and offshore places we like to fish in May.

You can sure the action is going to be incredible offshore with all this bait running in the area. There’s still some large tuna’s out there to be caught. blue marlin and some more dorado action and the fast sailfish action offshore. Punta Mita on the North side there’s been some hot action ,good water temperatures and lots of bait movement.

Puerto Vallarta fishing report March spring break

Puerto Vallarta fishing report for March. Spring break is here  and the fishing is heating up as a lot of fishermen come here on vacation to Puerto Vallarta Mexico. I want to say a special  thanks all the people that went out with us for the month of February fishing here in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. We had several groups  fishing from Canada. The other large portion of our folks were coming from the fishing United States. Without these fantistic clients we couldn’t have had the spectular month that we did last year for all of our boats. We had a great month fishing with some nice sailfish, mahi – mahi, huge yellowtails and some striped Marlin/ sailfish.

    spring break puerto vallarta fishing

March is when we get our normal  trade winds and currents that are good for the  deep sea fishing. This brings in a lot of blue water filled with all kinds of bait these pelagic fish love to eat. The water temperatures did move down a little bit and it’s holding steady at about 78 degrees. This means will still be able to see the striped Marlin but would be surprised to see the blue marlin  and some black action show up with more consistency.

Puerto Vallarta fishing is having fantistic action and lots of deep sea fishing trips. The humpback whales are still here and will be until April. The fishing areas have been calm and overall the fishing has been great. Puerto Vallarta is still one of the hottest places to fish in Mexico.

Nuevo Vallarta fishing is as good as it gets. The hard fighting Yellowtail have been showing up in huge numbers. Most days we’ve seen schools up almost 200 to 300  fish tear up the bait balls that arrived with these March trade winds. The playful humpback whales are still out close to Nuevo Vallarta and it’s not surprising to see the mom and the baby calf playing that are close by.marcg fishing in Mexico

Punta Mita fishing is hot this time of the year. Punta Mita fishing is where we usually see the effects of the great tides and trade winds that come in March as it surrounds us in all kinds of bait for the pelagic fish to eat. Just north of Punta Mita fishing still seeing sailfish and some striped Marlin almost every day. These are really great for your 10-hour fishing trips up to 12 hrs. trips offshore for the big ones.

The fishing here in Puerto Vallarta Mexico is good to excellent. We’re still waiting to see who the really good numbers and the schooling roosterfish and more sailfish. As the water heats up so will the fishing.

Hope to see you soon here in Puerto Vallarta fishing in March Spring Break

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing Charters June

Puerto Vallarta fishing Charters June is here and the fishing could not be better.  The deep sea fishing is continuing to increase in fish numbers and size. The marlin, sailfish, dorados and tuna are still following the bait into the beautiful Puerto Vallarta bay and the offshore areas we enjoying fishing here in Mexico.   The light evening rains will be starting around the middle of the month and this means the bay fishing in Puerto Vallarta  and the offshore fishing will be fantastic.  The water temp is still over 80 degrees and will be all summer long.  What does this mean to the average fisherman coming to Puerto vallarta or family ?  It means you will have a incredible chance to catch that throphy fish or those tuna and mahi mahi you are looking to cook at one of the best restaurants in Puerto Vallarta or take home with on the plane back to the United States or Canada.

    fly fishing puerto vallarta

You can expect some great bay fishing here in Puerto Vallarta.  After the light evening rains start the mahi mahi , tuna, bonitas and even some sailfish will be coming into the bay.  The bait are already here and we are just waiting for the pelagic fish to show up.  The rains are coming and for sure the bait balls.  With all the hot action happening the bay fish will be rocking and catching several good fish on every trip.

The offshore fishing has been strong and just as the bay fishing will improve with the coming of the rains and the bait movement.  One of the major differences in bay fishing and the offshore fishing is the travel time to and from where we fish offshore such as the El Morro, The Corbetena and El Banco just to mention a  few.  These are the go to places

puerto vallarta fishing charterswhen fishing for the big fish here in Puerto Vallarta fishing charters.  The blue marlin, black marlin , huge tuna, mahi mahi and sailfish roam these areas as they will be thick with bait.  Some days the bait is so abundant it goes on and on for miles.  Like a mile buffet only for fish.  This is an unbelievable  sight to see and defiantly means superb fishing for that day.

mahi mahi in puerto vallarta fishing

We will be using several techniques when fishing the offshore water here in Mexico.  Early morning is great for high speed lure and skipping baits.  On some of our bigger boats we can run 10 lines along with a couple of teasers.  If this does raise the fish they are just not biting in the morning.

Another technique is the slow troll with live baits ranging from a couple of pounds to ten or more pounds.  These large bonitas are used for big tunas and the larger marlin.  Think about a ten pound snack.  Will have to be some kind of big fish to tackle on of these large baits.

At other times of the day we like to run some of the baits on the down rigger up to 100 feet down.  These pelagic fish do not always hit on top of the surface.  One of my personal favorites is running the fast bait on the surface while running the down rigger so top water and below the water can be coved at the same time above and below.  As you can see June fishing in Puerto Vallarta is just getting started but already in full swing.  Come down while the beer is cold and the fishing hot.

Look forward to seeing you out there

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report may marlin

Puerto Vallarta fishing report may marlin. The water is continuing to heat up along with the marlin fishing. This incredible month of may fishing in Puerto Vallarta has seen some marlin, tuna, mahi mahi and yellowtail. This trend should hold for the next couple of months. June is right around the corner. The June fishing is always good as around the middle of the month the light rains start in the evenings. This brings all kind of pelagic fish into the bay following the bait food chain.

puerto vallarta deep sea fishingThe sardines and big Bonita are already here and that is one of the best indicators fishermen have to gauge the up coming fishing season. In one of the last fishing reports for Puerto Vallarta fishing I mentioned how the bait movement influenced where and how the big sailfish, tuna and marlin feed. If the bait is there

mahi mahi in puerto vallarta fishingwe all have a good chance a that trophy fish or good eating fish we are looking to catch on our fishing charter. The rains we have in the evenings make the water clearer and most of the days we can find a water line where the clear and off color water meet. This means the bait will be there and so will the fish. The different water temp. and the big change in the water color will hold good size fish especially during the large tide changes we have this time of the year.
One of the best methods to fish the water lines is the slow troll bait all along the line.  The big fish will be swimming up and down this area and with live bait placed in just the right spots it’s a can’t miss fishing method. There will be sailfish, marlin , tuna, and huge mahi mahi mixed in the water line that can run for miles and miles depending on the water flow from the 6 major rivers that flow into the Puerto Vallarta bay. These water lines can go out even farther into the pacific ocean where the large fish pray. The bay fishing in May though June is unbelievable but the offshore fishing is the way to go if you are looking for the huge trophy fish like big cow tuna, huge marlin and sailfish. This next month in June we have an international tournament is San Blas which is close to Puerto Vallarta ad brings in many fishermen from all over the world.
The offshore fishing is going to be outstanding this June as the water heats up so does the big game fishing. • Puerto Vallarta fishing report May

    Puerto Vallarta fishing report May

Puerto Vallarta fishing report in May will see some of  the best fishing of the year.  This last week we have seem improvements in the bait showing up and the number of fish we have been catching.  The fantastic news is the blue water is close by and the incredible amount of bait that is showing up in the Puerto Vallarta bay fishing will keep the fishing hot for quite a while.

    bait ball puerto vallarta fishing

As you can see from this huge bait ball we found inside the bay of Puerto Vallarta the bait is here and the fish will be as well.  When you get this amount of bait in these waters of Mexico the fishing is out of this world.  The day we were on these bait balls there were snapper, sailfish, marlin and some nice sized dorados hanging around.   The pelagic fish love to feed off of the gigantic bait balls as they move very slowly and stay tightly packed together for protection.  The marlin

simply have to swim through them feeding at will.  We spot these huge bait balls sometimes from a mile away with the birds working on top of them.  What a sight to see and also helps us find the game fish we are looking to catch these days offshore.

The roosterfish, snapper, tuna, sailfish, marlin, and mahi – mahi also known as dorados hang around these bait balls.  The water temp. moved up a few degrees and is holding around 77 deg. And should be stable for the next month.

    snapper fishing puerto vallarta

The bay fishing has been really hot this last week.  The yellowtail a.k.a.  jack crevalle are thick catching some days ten to twenty fish all around the 20 to 30 lbs range.  The Calofornia bonita are following the bait balls into the bay and are really fun fish to catch.  Average day for these great tasting fish is fifty a day are in the good range size.  These make for some great cerchive or on the grill after long day fishing here in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

The offshore fishing is producing nice size dorados, sailfish and marlin.  The best bet has been to run up to Punta Mita catching the Calofornia bonita while watching the bait balls to see if there are snapper mixed in with them.  The stripped marlin love the black bart lure trolled around 8 knots as well as sailfish with condom rigs bait with lure on top of the bait.  Super hot right now.

Bay fishing is super for around 6 hrs. and the offshore fishing can’t be beat 8 hrs. and maybe more.

Some come on down while this beautiful spring weather and fishing is so good right now.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report April 2018

Puerto Vallarta fishing report starts off with some incredible news. All fishing grounds are closed until farther notice. April’s fools just kidding the fishing is great and the marlin action is off the charts. The offshore fishing action could not be better. We fished on the north side of Puerto Vallarta including the Punta Mita fishing grounds and we were seeing sailfish and marlin in all the right spots. These pelagic fish were biting on black bart lures trolled around 7 to 8 knots. The very best bite was on live pitch baits. We are sight vesting these giant fish while trolling out best lure along with some hot teasers. If we can’t raise them with the teasers we are throwing the pitch baits when we see them finning. I cast over a hundred times yesterday so be sure and bring your power bars or what ever you use for that extra energy. puerto vallarta fishing chartersYou will need it fishing this time of the year. I almost forgot to mention the yellowtail AKA jack carevalles are tearing up the water. With catching 10 sailfish and marlin a day we landed 40 of these strong fighting fishing all in the 20 to 30 lbs. class. My repeat clients requested and early return to the dock after so many billfish and the fantastic action we were having on light tackle with all the jack cerevalles we caught yesterday. There we light winds and for the most the seas were flat like most of our clients like them. April fishing means the beginning of spring and lot of sardines and other boat fish show up around our shores. This is the number # 1 reason all of these billfish are holding in Puerto vallarta and Punta Mita. The water temp is around 77 deg. And the stripped marlin love this tempeture. It would be nice if we had the perfect blue water but these fish follow the bait and water temperatures before looking for blue water. Looking at the terrafin charts along with my thirty so odd years for fishing here the blue water will be following the bait and the fishing will be hot for Puerto vallarta this spring.
This spring break we had so many family and young men/girls on our boats. I was happy to see the bay fishing producing so many fish. All of the fishng trips in Puerto Vallarta were successful . The bay fishing is hot with some Spanish mackerel, bonita, snapper, yellowtail and even a few marlin the last few days.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report March

Puerto Vallarta fishing report March.  This means spring is just around the corner.  Thewater temp is heating up and so will the fishing here in Puerto Vallarta. IN the last week it was up almost 6 deg, this means the sardines will be showing up in huge schools. The water temperature is hold around 78 deg.   The sailfish, marlin and mahi mahi follow them each year. This means we will be loading up on big fish. Last week the sailfish action and marlin action was off the charts.  Most of the amazing fish are being caught on the troll.  One of the best areas the fish have been biting is just north of Puerto Vallarta around Punta Mita.  The pitch baits are working well and these pelagic fish come to surface to feed during the right times of the day between the big tide changes. These are the vesy best time to be on the water fishing.  Check tides before leaving or call me for the best times here in Puerto vallarta Mexico.  Remember some of the best water temp for sailfish and marlin is in the high 70’s.  Check with us and I will look at the charts of the surface temp and let everyone know where the fish will be biting.

The March fishing inshore is great as well as the sardines show up and of course all the bay fish follow then here into the beautiful bay.  There’s a little bit of everything to catch in the bay like bonita, Spanish mackerel, tunas, mahi mahi.  When the sardines and other bait fish show up the Puerto Vallarta fish can’t be beat any where in the world.  Come down with the family or  our hardcore buddies for some of the spring fishing we have here to offer.  You should

    July 14, 2017

Tuna fishing remains hot on longer trips!!!

The summer fishing is just around the corner. The water temp is holding around 85 deg and blue water in most places. If you can’t get to the blue water that is holding bait the chances are not good for big game fishing here in Puerto Vallarta. Some days the run has been short but others plan on around 1 hrs. I’ve been using terrafin and plotting courses before we leave the dock. This cuts down on the time we need to find where the fish are feeding. This information along with what we did the day before is the best knowledge you can have when going after big game.

Right now there are marlin, tuna, sailfish and dorados here in Puerto vallarta fishing. Last week the tuna were at the banco ( 50 miles offshore ) and you need to plan on a 12 hr trip to catch these. The marlin were hanging around the Corbetena which is a 10 hr trip but can turn into a 12 hr trip depending on the action. Some folks just don’t want to leave when they see all the action the fishing spot has to offer. The large bonitas ( 5 to 10 lbs ) we use for the big tuna and marlin work really well for pargos around the rocks at Corbetena and Banco. A simple slow drift with whole or bonita work best. If we have live bonitas we will put them down first.

The sailfish have been in and outside the bay the last few days. These trips can be done in 8 hrs. Best bet is to work the chlorophyll break line where we know the blue water meets the slightly off color water, works great for catching the dorados ( mahi-mahi dolphin ) as well .

The inshore fishing has been a mixed bag. Some days finding mahi mahi and sails in the bay and just outside. The bonitas have been all over the bay. The jack cerville are schooling in and just outside the bay. These trips can be done in 4 to 6 hrs.

Come on down and wet a line with us.

Fishing Puerto Vallarta                                                                                American Owned and Operated

    Spring  report

The spring fishing here in Puerto Vallarta is one of the best times to fish in Puerto Vallarta if not the best.

For short trips there are yellowtails, bonita, snapper, Spanish mackerel and many other game fish in the bay.  These trips are perfect for those who don’t want to spend all day on the water.  The length of these trips would be 4 to 6 hrs.

For folks that want to fish for sailfish and mahi mahi the fishing is great just offshore. As the water starts to  warm the sardines come so the  mahi mahi -sailfish come as well.   The best bet is to fish one of the current lines ( trash lines )  early in the morning for dorados and then in the afternoon go for the sailfish.  April  is the very best month for sailfish here in Puerto Vallarta fishing.

For fishermen that want to go for the big tuna and marlin the action is always hot this time of the year offshore.  There are three main fishing spots we fish during this time of the year.  The corbetena is one of the best and can be done in 10 hrs if you on the right boat.  That means be sure you have a good sportfisher that can at least cruise at 15 knots and if not rent a good boat.  The next place that holds big tuna and marlin is El Banco which is 50 miles offshore and most of the really big fish come from this spot.  It’s an underwater knoll that rises from 800 feet of water to just 50 feet and holds bait there almost year round.  All the fish big game hunters are looking to catch are here.  If you fish El banco 10 times 9 times you will come home with the fish  of a lifetime.

    marlin fishing

The ultimate fishing grounds is known as Las Marias.  Here is one of the top 10 places to fish  in the world.  The islands are 80 miles offshore and we do 2.5 day trips out to the islands for the trip you will never forget.  I been there numerous times and have never had a bad trip there.  They hold tuna, sailfish, marlin, dorados, snapper and all the above in great numbers.  These islands are restricted as where we can fish, as Mexico had a penal system there that holds about 3000 inmates.  There are four islands and the fishing here is great year round.
