• Puerto Vallarta fishing report may marlin

Puerto Vallarta fishing report may marlin. The water is continuing to heat up along with the marlin fishing. This incredible month of may fishing in Puerto Vallarta has seen some marlin, tuna, mahi mahi and yellowtail. This trend should hold for the next couple of months. June is right around the corner. The June fishing is always good as around the middle of the month the light rains start in the evenings. This brings all kind of pelagic fish into the bay following the bait food chain.

puerto vallarta deep sea fishingThe sardines and big Bonita are already here and that is one of the best indicators fishermen have to gauge the up coming fishing season. In one of the last fishing reports for Puerto Vallarta fishing I mentioned how the bait movement influenced where and how the big sailfish, tuna and marlin feed. If the bait is there

mahi mahi in puerto vallarta fishingwe all have a good chance a that trophy fish or good eating fish we are looking to catch on our fishing charter. The rains we have in the evenings make the water clearer and most of the days we can find a water line where the clear and off color water meet. This means the bait will be there and so will the fish. The different water temp. and the big change in the water color will hold good size fish especially during the large tide changes we have this time of the year.
One of the best methods to fish the water lines is the slow troll bait all along the line.  The big fish will be swimming up and down this area and with live bait placed in just the right spots it’s a can’t miss fishing method. There will be sailfish, marlin , tuna, and huge mahi mahi mixed in the water line that can run for miles and miles depending on the water flow from the 6 major rivers that flow into the Puerto Vallarta bay. These water lines can go out even farther into the pacific ocean where the large fish pray. The bay fishing in May though June is unbelievable but the offshore fishing is the way to go if you are looking for the huge trophy fish like big cow tuna, huge marlin and sailfish. This next month in June we have an international tournament is San Blas which is close to Puerto Vallarta ad brings in many fishermen from all over the world.
The offshore fishing is going to be outstanding this June as the water heats up so does the big game fishing. If you would like more info about the great bay fishing or our fantastic offshore fishing give me a call toll free at 1 800 430 6048. I have been here fishing for over 30 years and love to talk shop with new comers coming to Puerto Vallarta fishing. We also post pictures on our Facebook page so you can see what the fishing has been the last few days before you come down to fish with us. https://www.facebook.com/PuertoVallartafishing.Capt.Pete/

    puerto vallarta fly fishing

What a great fight on a fly rod. With some great angling and some great boat maneuvering from the Captain  Dr. Glenn landed this big fish here in Puerto Vallarta fly fishing. It’s one thing to find these big fish but then another to get boat in position for angler to cast with fly rod and hook up.
This is what happen to his fly rod. Got the fish in but had to pay the price with broken fly rod.

If you are looking for a fishing trip offshore, in the bay with family or some incredible fly fishng we have ya covered.
The bay fishing is holding many fish for the conventional angler to the fly fisherman. Best bet has been 6 to 8 hrs. for these fly fishing nuevo vallartatrips.

The offshore fishing was red hot with the stripped marlin and sailfish hanging around in good numbers. One of the best places was up north around San Pancho or Salulita, Nay. Just outside the bay here in beautiful Puerto Vallarta. Best bet was 8 to 10 hrs. and plan on catching a lot of fish. The mahi mahi are still here and will be showing up in good numbers as the water temp rises. Stay tuned for next week action or come down and join us on one of our fishing charters here in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. You will not be disappointed.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report May

    Puerto Vallarta fishing report May

Puerto Vallarta fishing report in May will see some of  the best fishing of the year.  This last week we have seem improvements in the bait showing up and the number of fish we have been catching.  The fantastic news is the blue water is close by and the incredible amount of bait that is showing up in the Puerto Vallarta bay fishing will keep the fishing hot for quite a while.

    bait ball puerto vallarta fishing

As you can see from this huge bait ball we found inside the bay of Puerto Vallarta the bait is here and the fish will be as well.  When you get this amount of bait in these waters of Mexico the fishing is out of this world.  The day we were on these bait balls there were snapper, sailfish, marlin and some nice sized dorados hanging around.   The pelagic fish love to feed off of the gigantic bait balls as they move very slowly and stay tightly packed together for protection.  The marlin

simply have to swim through them feeding at will.  We spot these huge bait balls sometimes from a mile away with the birds working on top of them.  What a sight to see and also helps us find the game fish we are looking to catch these days offshore.

The roosterfish, snapper, tuna, sailfish, marlin, and mahi – mahi also known as dorados hang around these bait balls.  The water temp. moved up a few degrees and is holding around 77 deg. And should be stable for the next month.

    snapper fishing puerto vallarta

The bay fishing has been really hot this last week.  The yellowtail a.k.a.  jack crevalle are thick catching some days ten to twenty fish all around the 20 to 30 lbs range.  The Calofornia bonita are following the bait balls into the bay and are really fun fish to catch.  Average day for these great tasting fish is fifty a day are in the good range size.  These make for some great cerchive or on the grill after long day fishing here in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

The offshore fishing is producing nice size dorados, sailfish and marlin.  The best bet has been to run up to Punta Mita catching the Calofornia bonita while watching the bait balls to see if there are snapper mixed in with them.  The stripped marlin love the black bart lure trolled around 8 knots as well as sailfish with condom rigs bait with lure on top of the bait.  Super hot right now.

Bay fishing is super for around 6 hrs. and the offshore fishing can’t be beat 8 hrs. and maybe more.

Some come on down while this beautiful spring weather and fishing is so good right now.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report for tournaments

Puerto Vallarta fishing report this week has some new news coming up about what we have been catching. And some even more exciting news about some of the up coming fishing tournaments here in Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding areas. The really big question we get all the time is what do we do differently in a fishing tournament versus a regular fishig day of 8 hrs.  I’ve heard this before and after the tournaments.  The main factor is we fish for marlin, sailfish, tuna and dorados also know as mahi mahi but really big ones as with most  fishing tournaments the biggest fish wins or the fishing boat that catches the most fish.

The baits are a bigger and so are the lures.   we made sure there is new line on all the reels and plenty of baits with all kind of lures known to man.   Of course the hours we fish are set by the fishing committees and can range from 8 hours the first day to 16 hours the next day.  Most of the incredible  tournaments are three days in length.  There is plenty of time to catch the big fish of your dreams and them some.  We have a exciting tournament scheduled  in June 13 to June 17 , 2018 which will be held in San Blas, Nayarit.  San Blas is an old fort 50 nautical  miles north of beautiful Puerto Vallarta Mexico with is fanstic fishing grounds.  We love this tournament as the fishing grounds are very close and the run is very short. ( less than 1 hour in most cases)  The sailfish are thick this time of the year as well as big marlin.  The mahi mahi will be in full force this year as all the fishing conditions are looking great and could not be any better.

This week the bay fishing in Puerto Vallarta has been offering the very elusive California Bonita which is a spectular eating fish.  The Spanish mackerel are still hanging around the bay as well.  The snapper action was on and off but still here.  The famous Mexican torros also know as jack Carville are bountiful all over the bay and some of the offshore fishing spots.  Speaking of offshore fishing in Puerto Vallarta the fishing was a little off as we had some light color water move in and the marlin/sailfish did not like it one bit.  Since that time the water conditions have improved and so has the marlin/sailfish fishng conditions.  I’m happy to report there are more sardines and big baits moving into the offshore areas along with the Puerto Vallarta bay fishing areas.  This means the fishing will be hot and lot of fish caught over the next few weeks.  This coming week should see some great fishing coupled with some great weather.

So what ya waiting for come on down and enjoy the fantastic fishing and incredible weather

Look forward to seeing yall out there in Puerto Vallarta Mexico for fun fishing and sun

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report April

Puerto Vallarta fishing is in full swing.  The sardines have arrived along with choras.  This is great on so may levels.  The sardines bring the mahi mahi , sailfish, stripped and other game fish close to our beautiful shores and bay.   When the bait movement comes here and hangs out for long period of time this means only one thing.  Great fishng in Puerto vallarta.  The sailfish , mahi mahi aka dorados, and stripped marlin all have a water temperature that they like to swim in.  Just like us when we take a bath.  We all have a temperature we like the water to be.  Will so do fish.  This is one of the main reasons we are checking the water and pacific ocean water temps.  These fish love to be in the perfect water temperature.

There’s one factor that will keep fish in a location or move them to another location.  Food yes food.  Bait.  No matter what the water temp is or the color of the water.  If the bait is there ya have a great chance to land the big one that most folks are fishing for here in Puerto Vallarta.  When we find the bait that these pelagic fish love we have hit a home run.  We love these conditions are the fish are thick and there for the catching.  I use terrafin  for all of our boats.  If it’s one of our super pangas 28 ft., or med size sportfishers 32 ft. or one of the 40 ft sportfishers with everything included.

The choras we caught today are a good sign that the big fish are here and coming to stay.  The big tuna and marlin love to eat the 5 to 10 lbs choras.  Bait for us that fish for these big guys.  Ya must have a good boat that has tuna tubes are you are just wasting your time. If you can find the big baits and load up the tuna tubes your chances of catching a big marlin have increased ten fold.  When the water temp start rising and the two favorites baits start showing up these means game on for fishing here in Puerto vallarta.  The blue marlin and black marlin will be here and so will the best fishing in the world.  Come down and try your hand of catching one of these trophy fish that run in these waters of the Pacific ocean and the are that surround Puerto vallarta.

    fishng charters in Puerto Vallarta

This last week the bay fishing was hot for snapper, yellowtail, Spanish mackerel and other game fish.  Best bet was 6 hrs in the bay on one of our super pangas for smaller groups or one of the larger boats for 4 or more people wanting to fish here in Puerto Vallarta.

The offshore action has be incredible.  The stripped marlin have been hanging around for the bait that I described above along with sailfish.  These trips can be done in 8 hrs or    maybe a little more time.  It’s best to call and speak with Capt. Peter Vines toll free to plan your fishing charter here in Puerto Vallarta before you come down to find the right boat and the best trip for you and family.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report April 2018

Puerto Vallarta fishing report starts off with some incredible news. All fishing grounds are closed until farther notice. April’s fools just kidding the fishing is great and the marlin action is off the charts. The offshore fishing action could not be better. We fished on the north side of Puerto Vallarta including the Punta Mita fishing grounds and we were seeing sailfish and marlin in all the right spots. These pelagic fish were biting on black bart lures trolled around 7 to 8 knots. The very best bite was on live pitch baits. We are sight vesting these giant fish while trolling out best lure along with some hot teasers. If we can’t raise them with the teasers we are throwing the pitch baits when we see them finning. I cast over a hundred times yesterday so be sure and bring your power bars or what ever you use for that extra energy. puerto vallarta fishing chartersYou will need it fishing this time of the year. I almost forgot to mention the yellowtail AKA jack carevalles are tearing up the water. With catching 10 sailfish and marlin a day we landed 40 of these strong fighting fishing all in the 20 to 30 lbs. class. My repeat clients requested and early return to the dock after so many billfish and the fantastic action we were having on light tackle with all the jack cerevalles we caught yesterday. There we light winds and for the most the seas were flat like most of our clients like them. April fishing means the beginning of spring and lot of sardines and other boat fish show up around our shores. This is the number # 1 reason all of these billfish are holding in Puerto vallarta and Punta Mita. The water temp is around 77 deg. And the stripped marlin love this tempeture. It would be nice if we had the perfect blue water but these fish follow the bait and water temperatures before looking for blue water. Looking at the terrafin charts along with my thirty so odd years for fishing here the blue water will be following the bait and the fishing will be hot for Puerto vallarta this spring.
This spring break we had so many family and young men/girls on our boats. I was happy to see the bay fishing producing so many fish. All of the fishng trips in Puerto Vallarta were successful . The bay fishing is hot with some Spanish mackerel, bonita, snapper, yellowtail and even a few marlin the last few days.

The temperature is around 80 degrees in afternoon . The water temperature is holding in the high seventy’s. The bay fishing here I Puerto Vallarta will remain strong and the weather should be perfect.

  • Puerto Vallarta Fishing Spring break

Puerto Vallarta fishing spring fishing has started off with a blast.  The fish are hanging around and I mean big fish like marlin.  The stripped marlin having been feeding all over the offshore fishing spots just to the north of us.  Some days we have had 10 to 15 hook ups. This is counting the sailfish, marlin, and dorados that the fleet has been catching.  The best trip are 8 to 10 hrs outside of the bay.  The best method has been pitch baits and skipping baits.  Last week we had 4 marlin on at the same time.  What a show and fun for everyone onboard.  Sure wish I would have had the gopro turned on for that one.

The bay fishing is still strong like the offshore fishing in Puerto Vallarta.  The best trips have been 6 hrs catching Spanish mackerel and Bonita for cooking or making cerchive.  The yellowtail have been so thick I lose count on how many hook ups we have having each bay.  Be sure and take plenty of live bait as you can hook these big fish four at a time as well.  They range from 5 to 30 lbs. and are one of the toughest fish out there for fun fishing action.  Pound for pound the best fish to catch.  We caught 15 of the fighters yesterday but released all of them.  You may want to take some back to hotel but if not it’s best to release these great fish.

The Puerto Vallarta  whale watching is still off the charts.  There must be still 300 humpback whales here in Puerto Vallarta Mexico with their new calves.  These babies are 10 feet long and just love to play all day long but then who wouldn’t ???  The whales are here for several months from November to past April every year and put on quite a show for us out on whale watching and also all of our Puerto Vallarta fishing charters.

The weather is perfect the fish are biting and the people here are some of  the most friendly in the world.  Come to Puerto Vallarta fishing charters and make some memories and new friends along the way

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report March

Puerto Vallarta fishing report March.  This means spring is just around the corner.  Thewater temp is heating up and so will the fishing here in Puerto Vallarta. IN the last week it was up almost 6 deg, this means the sardines will be showing up in huge schools. The water temperature is hold around 78 deg.   The sailfish, marlin and mahi mahi follow them each year. This means we will be loading up on big fish. Last week the sailfish action and marlin action was off the charts.  Most of the amazing fish are being caught on the troll.  One of the best areas the fish have been biting is just north of Puerto Vallarta around Punta Mita.  The pitch baits are working well and these pelagic fish come to surface to feed during the right times of the day between the big tide changes. These are the vesy best time to be on the water fishing.  Check tides before leaving or call me for the best times here in Puerto vallarta Mexico.  Remember some of the best water temp for sailfish and marlin is in the high 70’s.  Check with us and I will look at the charts of the surface temp and let everyone know where the fish will be biting.

    puerto vallarta fishing

We love March fishing as on most trips we can fish offshore and still have time to come inshore and try for the world class roosertfish we catch in March fishng here in Puerto Vallarta.  These unbelievable fish can be caught using the 5 to ten pound live bonita.  When these fish hit the game is one and can last a while trying to catch one of these big guys

The March fishing inshore is great as well as the sardines show up and of course all the bay fish follow then here into the beautiful bay.  There’s a little bit of everything to catch in the bay like bonita, Spanish mackerel, tunas, mahi mahi.  When the sardines and other bait fish show up the Puerto Vallarta fish can’t be beat any where in the world.  Come down with the family or  our hardcore buddies for some of the spring fishing we have here to offer.  You should

  • February fishing in Puerto Vallarta

February fishing in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.  What to expect ?  How long should we go ?  What size boat will we take ?  What will we catch ??  Just a couple of the questions I get everyday when answering calls and e mails about fishing here in Puerto Vallarta.  We need to know first how many people will be in your group so I can put you and your group on the proper size vessel.  We offer 28 ft. super pangas

    puerto vallarta super panga

    super panga Puerto vallarta

I also like to know if there will be young kids on the trip.  If the kids are really young your trip should be accordingly 4 hours to 6 hours.  Remember the kids of course want to go all day and stay out longer but  are not used to being on the water that amount of time.  These boats are great for families or small groups of four people.  Most of these trips will be in the bay but can venture offshore as well when we have smooth seas which is most of the time.

The next size boats we offer are from 32 to 36 ft. and can of course go offshore and take 6 people max.

The major difference is this boat has more shade and can run a a few more lines.  Best choice for families and serious fishermen.  Fantastic for offshore fishing and inshore fishing for just about anything you might  want to catch while here on vacation.  Snorkeling, whale watching and sight seeing is also offered on our boats here in Puerto Vallarta.

For larger groups and the serious fishermen we recommend one of our 40 ft. boats that can handle your group in total comfort and catch anything out there.  These boats run 10 lines and serval teasers at the same time for raising marlin, sailfish, tuna, and mahi – mahi that are usually found offshore in the month of February .  Like this month the stripped marlin action is hot just offshore for these pelagic fish.  Most of these trips range from 8 hrs. to 12 hrs. depending on which fish we will be targeting the day you and your group fishes with us.  One of the easiest way to find out about the current conditions is a simple toll free phone call ( 800 4306048 ) from the U.S. or Canada.

E mails are great for getting general info about fishing here but there’s nothing like speaking with the owner or one of our top notch Captains.  The average years working offshore fishing these Mexican waters is 30 year min.  What I’m saying is these guys can fish and know what they are doing.  More importantly they know where to find the fish and can answer any of your questions in perfect English.

fishing puerto vallartaThe second question I get everyday is how long should we go for.  This depends on what you would like to fish for.  Will you be wanting to catch marlin, sailfish ,tuna,  dorados ?  In the winter months most of these fish are roaming offshore and 4 to 6 hrs. is just not enough time to get out there and back in such a short time.  We recommend 8 hrs. plus for these kind of fishing trips.  This does not mean you can’t catch these fish in the bay or on shorter trips it’s just your chances go way up offshore and more time on the water.  As I stated earlier best way to find out where the fish are running and biting is contacting us via e mail or a phone call.  The summer fishing is totally different from the winter fishing and these pelagic fish are in the bay more  often.  We also have on the website a fishing calendar that can help most folks decide what they would like to catch.

What to expect on a fishing charter is a good question.   If you have done your homework there should be no surprises.  You should already know what has been biting the last few days and have a good idea where you will be fishing.  The amount of time on the water and of course which size boat best fits you/family needs and budget.  If you come out and fish with us on any of our vessels you can expect to have a safe fun filled day catch some amazing fish along with seeing the spectacular sights Puerto Vallarta has to offer.  Come on down and see what February fishing is all about but don’t forget to check with us on the latest Puerto Vallarta fishing report and correct conditions.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing February

Puerto Vallarta fishing February has started off with marlin, sailfish and some mahi mahi action.  The water has cooled down a bit but is still sitting around 75 to 80 deg. In most places inshore and offshore.   The offshore bite has been great around 5 to 7 miles offshore.  The best spots have been where we are finding the right thermoclines along with the blue water the pelagic game fish such as marlin , sailfish and mahi mahi enjoy feeding in.  You may ask how do I find these spots to fish in or make sure at least your charter Captain in Puerto Vallarta will know this information.  There are several ways to obtain this information.  We gather information from all of our boats daily ,our competitors and use one of the online services that we pay a yearly fee to receive this info.  We gather the  chlorophyll, altimetry, currents and surface tempeture.  With this info along with direct contact with all our charter Captains here in Puerto Vallarta we have a good idea where we can catch that next trophy for our clients.  It’s no wonder we bring in more trophy fish than the other charter boats each year.  If you are looking for a big marlin, sailfish or mahi mahi our company Puerto Vallarta fishing charters can’t be beat for the price and service we offer.  Some of the best baits right now are the live goggle eye on the slow troll.  The mullet sewn up with a hot lure on top is also producing several fish.  The black bart lures are tearing the water up the last couple of weeks along with Joe Yee, marlin magic and Pakula lumo.  These are year in and year out the best offshore lures for fishing the Mexican waters here in Puerto Vallarta.

The inshore or bay fishing is maintaining a strong bite up by Punta Mita and Nuevo Vallarta fishing.  The best bet has been fishing the incoming tides or out going tides for some Spanish mackerel, bonitas, yellowtail, barracuda and some other game fish.  Another good producing fishing spot has been down my mismaloya beach.  The water has been just right catch a few snapper on the slow troll with live goggle eye the sizes have ranging from a few lbs. to 10 lbs.  Great eating fish and fantastic to catch.  Punta negra has also supplying some nice Spanish mackerel up to 5 lbs.  These are the very best for ceviche and we try and make this each day for our clients.  The recipe for our famous Puerto Vallarta ceviche is on the website as we have had so many requests.

So besides having superb fishing offshore and inshore in several of our favorite fishing spots the marina life in the bay is the best it’s been in 20 years.

Along with catching all kind of fish

Everyone who comes to Puerto Vallarta in February will have the chance to see the humpback whales,  spotted bottle nose dolphin, sea turtles and huge manta rays.  The show the whales put on each day is a special bonus each day for fishermen and fisherwoman coming and going on all trips out of Puerto Vallarta Mexico.  This is the mating season for the whales and manta rays so be ready with you camera for some incredible breaches seen daily.

There is so much more to see and do on the water here a cruise, whale watching or just sight seeing trip is a must in February. To get more info on how to book the right  boat for your needs here in Punta Mita, Nuevo Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta fishing call me toll free at 800 4306048 or e mail and I’ll get back with the info I have from my 30 years plus fishing these beautiful waters.  Hope to see you out there with you camera or fishing rod doubled over.  Hey how about both
