• Puerto Vallarta fishing charter report for August

Puerto Vallarta fishing charter report for August.   The latest fishing report we have been getting some huge Marlin offshore around the Corbetena and just north of this area. These offshore trips of 10 hours give us time to check many good fishing G.P.S. points along the way out and on the way back.

    Quadruple hook up

When we are fishing for 8 hours up to 10-hours there are many different options to find pelagic fish for our clients on these incredible fishing trips. There are times when we check an area in the morning and the tides are not right does not mean the fishing there was bad, but the fish just did not want to bite on that particular tides.  The dorado fishing inside the bay has been great.  This is good for folks that don’t want to spend a full day fishing.  If you want to take one of our boats out but just want a short trip for family or friends this is the trip for you. These fishing trips are a fun day for 4 to 6 hrs. The offshore fishing is extremely hot with blue marlin and black marlin with some of the bigger Dorado and sailfish.  The inshore fishing 4 to 6 hours we’re catching some dorados, yellowtail, and Snappers up around north shore. I’ve seen a lot of fish showing up on the Southside in fantastic numbers. The best Method for catching these huge roosterfish is a troll of about 2 knots to 3 knots depending on the seas with some live goggle-eye or casting where the fish are schooling down by the south side of the bay as well. Los Arcos is just one of the many places we did well a couple of days ago.  These short fishing trips Can be done here in Puerto Vallarta fishing in 6 hours easily.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report may marlin

Puerto Vallarta fishing report may marlin. The water is continuing to heat up along with the marlin fishing. This incredible month of may fishing in Puerto Vallarta has seen some marlin, tuna, mahi mahi and yellowtail. This trend should hold for the next couple of months. June is right around the corner. The June fishing is always good as around the middle of the month the light rains start in the evenings. This brings all kind of pelagic fish into the bay following the bait food chain.

puerto vallarta deep sea fishingThe sardines and big Bonita are already here and that is one of the best indicators fishermen have to gauge the up coming fishing season. In one of the last fishing reports for Puerto Vallarta fishing I mentioned how the bait movement influenced where and how the big sailfish, tuna and marlin feed. If the bait is there

mahi mahi in puerto vallarta fishingwe all have a good chance a that trophy fish or good eating fish we are looking to catch on our fishing charter. The rains we have in the evenings make the water clearer and most of the days we can find a water line where the clear and off color water meet. This means the bait will be there and so will the fish. The different water temp. and the big change in the water color will hold good size fish especially during the large tide changes we have this time of the year.
One of the best methods to fish the water lines is the slow troll bait all along the line.  The big fish will be swimming up and down this area and with live bait placed in just the right spots it’s a can’t miss fishing method. There will be sailfish, marlin , tuna, and huge mahi mahi mixed in the water line that can run for miles and miles depending on the water flow from the 6 major rivers that flow into the Puerto Vallarta bay. These water lines can go out even farther into the pacific ocean where the large fish pray. The bay fishing in May though June is unbelievable but the offshore fishing is the way to go if you are looking for the huge trophy fish like big cow tuna, huge marlin and sailfish. This next month in June we have an international tournament is San Blas which is close to Puerto Vallarta ad brings in many fishermen from all over the world.
The offshore fishing is going to be outstanding this June as the water heats up so does the big game fishing. • Puerto Vallarta fishing report April 2018

Puerto Vallarta fishing report starts off with some incredible news. All fishing grounds are closed until farther notice. April’s fools just kidding the fishing is great and the marlin action is off the charts. The offshore fishing action could not be better. We fished on the north side of Puerto Vallarta including the Punta Mita fishing grounds and we were seeing sailfish and marlin in all the right spots. These pelagic fish were biting on black bart lures trolled around 7 to 8 knots. The very best bite was on live pitch baits. We are sight vesting these giant fish while trolling out best lure along with some hot teasers. If we can’t raise them with the teasers we are throwing the pitch baits when we see them finning. I cast over a hundred times yesterday so be sure and bring your power bars or what ever you use for that extra energy. puerto vallarta fishing chartersYou will need it fishing this time of the year. I almost forgot to mention the yellowtail AKA jack carevalles are tearing up the water. With catching 10 sailfish and marlin a day we landed 40 of these strong fighting fishing all in the 20 to 30 lbs. class. My repeat clients requested and early return to the dock after so many billfish and the fantastic action we were having on light tackle with all the jack cerevalles we caught yesterday. There we light winds and for the most the seas were flat like most of our clients like them. April fishing means the beginning of spring and lot of sardines and other boat fish show up around our shores. This is the number # 1 reason all of these billfish are holding in Puerto vallarta and Punta Mita. The water temp is around 77 deg. And the stripped marlin love this tempeture. It would be nice if we had the perfect blue water but these fish follow the bait and water temperatures before looking for blue water. Looking at the terrafin charts along with my thirty so odd years for fishing here the blue water will be following the bait and the fishing will be hot for Puerto vallarta this spring.
This spring break we had so many family and young men/girls on our boats. I was happy to see the bay fishing producing so many fish. All of the fishng trips in Puerto Vallarta were successful . The bay fishing is hot with some Spanish mackerel, bonita, snapper, yellowtail and even a few marlin the last few days.

The temperature is around 80 degrees in afternoon . The water temperature is holding in the high seventy’s. The bay fishing here I Puerto Vallarta will remain strong and the weather should be perfect.

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report March

Puerto Vallarta fishing report March.  This means spring is just around the corner.  Thewater temp is heating up and so will the fishing here in Puerto Vallarta. IN the last week it was up almost 6 deg, this means the sardines will be showing up in huge schools. The water temperature is hold around 78 deg.   The sailfish, marlin and mahi mahi follow them each year. This means we will be loading up on big fish. Last week the sailfish action and marlin action was off the charts.  Most of the amazing fish are being caught on the troll.  One of the best areas the fish have been biting is just north of Puerto Vallarta around Punta Mita.  The pitch baits are working well and these pelagic fish come to surface to feed during the right times of the day between the big tide changes. These are the vesy best time to be on the water fishing.  Check tides before leaving or call me for the best times here in Puerto vallarta Mexico.  Remember some of the best water temp for sailfish and marlin is in the high 70’s.  Check with us and I will look at the charts of the surface temp and let everyone know where the fish will be biting.

    puerto vallarta fishing

We love March fishing as on most trips we can fish offshore and still have time to come inshore and try for the world class roosertfish we catch in March fishng here in Puerto Vallarta.  These unbelievable fish can be caught using the 5 to ten pound live bonita.  When these fish hit the game is one and can last a while trying to catch one of these big guys

The March fishing inshore is great as well as the sardines show up and of course all the bay fish follow then here into the beautiful bay.  There’s a little bit of everything to catch in the bay like bonita, Spanish mackerel, tunas, mahi mahi.  When the sardines and other bait fish show up the Puerto Vallarta fish can’t be beat any where in the world.  Come down with the family or  our hardcore buddies for some of the spring fishing we have here to offer.  You should

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing February

Puerto Vallarta fishing February has started off with marlin, sailfish and some mahi mahi action.  The water has cooled down a bit but is still sitting around 75 to 80 deg. In most places inshore and offshore.   The offshore bite has been great around 5 to 7 miles offshore.  The best spots have been where we are finding the right thermoclines along with the blue water the pelagic game fish such as marlin , sailfish and mahi mahi enjoy feeding in.  You may ask how do I find these spots to fish in or make sure at least your charter Captain in Puerto Vallarta will know this information.  There are several ways to obtain this information.  We gather information from all of our boats daily ,our competitors and use one of the online services that we pay a yearly fee to receive this info.  We gather the  chlorophyll, altimetry, currents and surface tempeture.  With this info along with direct contact with all our charter Captains here in Puerto Vallarta we have a good idea where we can catch that next trophy for our clients.  It’s no wonder we bring in more trophy fish than the other charter boats each year.  If you are looking for a big marlin, sailfish or mahi mahi our company Puerto Vallarta fishing charters can’t be beat for the price and service we offer.  Some of the best baits right now are the live goggle eye on the slow troll.  The mullet sewn up with a hot lure on top is also producing several fish.  The black bart lures are tearing the water up the last couple of weeks along with Joe Yee, marlin magic and Pakula lumo.  These are year in and year out the best offshore lures for fishing the Mexican waters here in Puerto Vallarta.

The inshore or bay fishing is maintaining a strong bite up by Punta Mita and Nuevo Vallarta fishing.  The best bet has been fishing the incoming tides or out going tides for some Spanish mackerel, bonitas, yellowtail, barracuda and some other game fish.  Another good producing fishing spot has been down my mismaloya beach.  The water has been just right catch a few snapper on the slow troll with live goggle eye the sizes have ranging from a few lbs. to 10 lbs.  Great eating fish and fantastic to catch.  Punta negra has also supplying some nice Spanish mackerel up to 5 lbs.  These are the very best for ceviche and we try and make this each day for our clients.  The recipe for our famous Puerto Vallarta ceviche is on the website as we have had so many requests.

So besides having superb fishing offshore and inshore in several of our favorite fishing spots the marina life in the bay is the best it’s been in 20 years.

Along with catching all kind of fish

Everyone who comes to Puerto Vallarta in February will have the chance to see the humpback whales,  spotted bottle nose dolphin, sea turtles and huge manta rays.  The show the whales put on each day is a special bonus each day for fishermen and fisherwoman coming and going on all trips out of Puerto Vallarta Mexico.  This is the mating season for the whales and manta rays so be ready with you camera for some incredible breaches seen daily.

There is so much more to see and do on the water here a cruise, whale watching or just sight seeing trip is a must in February. To get more info on how to book the right  boat for your needs here in Punta Mita, Nuevo Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta fishing call me toll free at 800 4306048 or e mail and I’ll get back with the info I have from my 30 years plus fishing these beautiful waters.  Hope to see you out there with you camera or fishing rod doubled over.  Hey how about both

  • December fishing in Puerto Vallarta 2017

    The fishing
In Puerto Vallarta is at it’s best. The weather , temperature and fishing bite
Are almost perfect. I always like to start with the Puerto Vallarta bay fishing as
This time of the year we always have lot of families that like short trips as many
People have young kids. If the kids are less than 10 years old we recommend 6 hrs. or less for bay trips. Of course some kids can fish all day depending on the ages. Even though there are lot of huge mantas, sea turtles, dolphin and

Humpback whales to see along the way out and back. The kids love it but then again who doesn’t ??
The bay fishing trips are resulting in snapper, Spanish mackerel, bonita, mahi mahi and even a couple
Of sailfish on the last couple of trips. The seas have been flat making for a smooth ride for all. The best bet is book your trip along with the tides to give you a better chance of hook ups. The is still plenty of bait in the Bay so be sure you have live bait to take on all trips.
The offshore trips are landing some nice marlin, sailfish and mahi mahi.   A couple of the best spots we fish El Morro and Corbetena
Have been the best this month. There have been several nice marlin caught on some 8 hrs trips but 10 hrs has been the best bet for catching the huge fish. The are black marlin , blue marlin and of course stripped marlin. The first 2 marlin species have been hitting
Fast speed lures and our old favorite live bait. The latter has been on lures , pitch baits , and the slow troll with 2 to 4 lb baits. The tuna are still
Hanging around Rock, El Morro and of course El Banco.
The very best fishing has been at the islands Maries. These are 2.5 day trips where you can catch marlin, sailfish, tuna and the bigger marlin.

Puerto Vallarta fishing report summer 2017

Summer time is here and the fishing is heating up in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

    puerto vallarta sailfish release

During the months of June through October we have some of the best fishing in the world. In the month of June usually around the 15 th . Of the month we get rains every day about 6 to 7 pm in the evening. This is a good thing as it cools everything off and creates super fishing in and outside the bay.  ON some days the bay fishing is better in the bay versus offshore fishing.

    Capt. Pete

Summer time fishing in the bay can produce a lot of action with bonita, yellowtail, tuna, mahi mahi and even sailfish. This is because the water temperature reaches about 80 deg. And stays there until the winter months roll around. There will usually be a trash line that is created from all the stuff that come out of the rivers here in Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas. We have 5 rivers that feed into the bay here. Early morning fishing on this trash line can put ya on mahi mahi and selfish almost everyday. Be sure and have lots of live bait. Trolling with lures and sewn baits such as mullets work great as well. These bay trips are great for the families or someone looking to catch a trophy fish.

    fishing puerto vallarta

For those who are serious about catching the big one such as marlin and tuna summer is the best time be fishing the outside of the bay. With the water temperature around 80 deg. There are schools of bonitos everywhere and the marlin and tuna follow them here to Puerto Vallarta. Just out past the Maritas,Corbetena and El Banco are just a few of the places we fish for the big ones. Plan on a 10 to 12 hr day for the marlin and tuna trips. As you can see summer time fishing in Puerto Vallarta can not be beat so come on down and wet and line and have a cold one.

    July 14, 2017

Tuna fishing remains hot on longer trips!!!

The summer fishing is just around the corner. The water temp is holding around 85 deg and blue water in most places. If you can’t get to the blue water that is holding bait the chances are not good for big game fishing here in Puerto Vallarta. Some days the run has been short but others plan on around 1 hrs. I’ve been using terrafin and plotting courses before we leave the dock. This cuts down on the time we need to find where the fish are feeding. This information along with what we did the day before is the best knowledge you can have when going after big game.

Right now there are marlin, tuna, sailfish and dorados here in Puerto vallarta fishing. Last week the tuna were at the banco ( 50 miles offshore ) and you need to plan on a 12 hr trip to catch these. The marlin were hanging around the Corbetena which is a 10 hr trip but can turn into a 12 hr trip depending on the action. Some folks just don’t want to leave when they see all the action the fishing spot has to offer. The large bonitas ( 5 to 10 lbs ) we use for the big tuna and marlin work really well for pargos around the rocks at Corbetena and Banco. A simple slow drift with whole or bonita work best. If we have live bonitas we will put them down first.

The sailfish have been in and outside the bay the last few days. These trips can be done in 8 hrs. Best bet is to work the chlorophyll break line where we know the blue water meets the slightly off color water, works great for catching the dorados ( mahi-mahi dolphin ) as well .

The inshore fishing has been a mixed bag. Some days finding mahi mahi and sails in the bay and just outside. The bonitas have been all over the bay. The jack cerville are schooling in and just outside the bay. These trips can be done in 4 to 6 hrs.

Come on down and wet a line with us.

    Spring  report

The spring fishing here in Puerto Vallarta is one of the best times to fish in Puerto Vallarta if not the best.

For short trips there are yellowtails, bonita, snapper, Spanish mackerel and many other game fish in the bay.  These trips are perfect for those who don’t want to spend all day on the water.  The length of these trips would be 4 to 6 hrs.

For folks that want to fish for sailfish and mahi mahi the fishing is great just offshore. As the water starts to  warm the sardines come so the  mahi mahi -sailfish come as well.   The best bet is to fish one of the current lines ( trash lines )  early in the morning for dorados and then in the afternoon go for the sailfish.  April  is the very best month for sailfish here in Puerto Vallarta fishing.

For fishermen that want to go for the big tuna and marlin the action is always hot this time of the year offshore.  There are three main fishing spots we fish during this time of the year.  The corbetena is one of the best and can be done in 10 hrs if you on the right boat.  That means be sure you have a good sportfisher that can at least cruise at 15 knots and if not rent a good boat.  The next place that holds big tuna and marlin is El Banco which is 50 miles offshore and most of the really big fish come from this spot.  It’s an underwater knoll that rises from 800 feet of water to just 50 feet and holds bait there almost year round.  All the fish big game hunters are looking to catch are here.  If you fish El banco 10 times 9 times you will come home with the fish  of a lifetime.

    marlin fishing

The ultimate fishing grounds is known as Las Marias.  Here is one of the top 10 places to fish  in the world.  The islands are 80 miles offshore and we do 2.5 day trips out to the islands for the trip you will never forget.  I been there numerous times and have never had a bad trip there.  They hold tuna, sailfish, marlin, dorados, snapper and all the above in great numbers.  These islands are restricted as where we can fish, as Mexico had a penal system there that holds about 3000 inmates.  There are four islands and the fishing here is great year round.

  • Puerto Vallarta Fishing Ceviche Recipe

The fishing remains strong here in Puerto Vallarta fishing.

Capt. Pete has had many requests for the ceviche recipe we make on the boat DOS AMIGOSDOS AMIGOS

Here’s what ya need to get started for 6 people :

    1. 1 lb. of white fish: here are a few that can be used – dorados ( AKA mahi- mahi)  red snapper, Spanish mackerel, halibut, flounder, or a combination of 1/2 lb white fish and 1/2 lb of shrimp.

    2. 15 limes or  lemons.  I always use limes

    3.  cilantro          use the whole bunch ( chopped fine )

    4. 6 tomatos ( med) deseeded

    5.  1 red bell pepper, 1 green bell pepper, 1 yellow bell pepper, 1 orange bell pepper  chopped/deseeded

    6. 1 large onion  white, red, yellow what ever flavor you like

    7. 1  large carrot  grated

    8. fresh ground pepper

    9. fresh ground sea salt

    10. Maggi cocktail sauce or soy sauce

    11. olive oil

    12. couple of peppers your choice  chopped depending on hot you like it !!! JALAPENOS ARE GOOD

    13. tostados

    14. avocados 2 large

    15. 2 large plastic bowls with tops

    16. large cutting board

    17. couple of beers for drinking while you make the ceviche

step 1 chop fish or shrimp in small pieces nothing larger that 1/4 inch

this will help the limes cook the fish/shrimp faster

step 2 put in plastic bowl and squeeze  limes over all the fish, just enough to cover the fish/shrimp

step 3 put in refrigerator , then should be stirred several times over the next 45 min while preparing

    the vegetables

step 4.  chop all the vegetables into 1/4 inch pieces

step 5  put all vegetables into the second plastic bowl

step 6 check your fish that has been in the refrigerator for 45 min, by now the fish/shrimp should have changed color, they should be a white color now.  If not leave them in the refrigerator a few more min.  ( don’t use to many limes- this will make your ceviche taste like limes )

step 7 mix the shrimp/fish and vegetables in large bowl , add fresh ground salt and fresh ground pepper

STEP 8  put in 2 table spoons of soy sauce or maggi cocktail sauce and mix

step 9  you can add 2 table spoons of olive oil as well ( optional )

step 10 put in refrigerator for 15 min and serve on tostado with wedge of avocado

step 11 add your favorite store bought hot sauce on top of tostado and serve

This is the one we like to make on the boat DOS AMIGOS for our clients

    ENJOY
